North Korea Has Advanced Nuclear Weapons?
North Korea announced it conducted its 1st successful test of a hydrogen bomb. Also known as thermonuclear warheads, H-bombs are more powerful than the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. They use the merging of atoms, fusion rather than fission, to explode large amounts of energy. Although unconfirmed, the claim alarmed the international community. Assessments of the blast indicate it was not large enough to be a full thermonuclear device, but may have involved fusion. North Korea said the device was miniaturized. Kim Jong-un, Workers' Party Chairman and Supreme Leader, claims his scientists made a nuclear bomb small enough to fit on a warhead.
